The Best Golf Course food in Utah County?
Where is the best golf course food in Utah County? This is one of the most common questions the Utah Golf Guy gets asked. So, we took the month of June (2021) and ate at every public golf course cafe in Utah County. We found some good restaurants, as well as a few terrible ones. But one golf restaurant stood head and shoulders above the rest….
And the winner is...
The Sand Trap Cafe at Hobble Creek Golf Course. Located in Springville, this gem of a golf course is now offering food on par with the course. The food is creative, high quality and delicious. The menu has a large variety with a few original items that you don’t often see at a golf course. The staff is friendly, humble and kind. And the views are out of this world. Eating your meal on the balcony, overlooking the #1 and #10 holes at sunrise is an experience you will soon not forget. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday than playing 18 holes at the majestic Hobble Creek Golf Course, and topping it off with an unforgettable meal on the patio at the Cafe.
The Food
The Utah Golf Guy (and family) sampled a variety of items off the menu. Our personal favorites were the Philly Cheese Steak and Leon’s Sandwich.
Having lived in Philadelphia, the Utah Golf Guy often craves a classic Philly Cheese Steak. Too many Utah places have attempted and failed to re-create this specialty sandwich. The Sand Trap at Hobble Creek has come closer than most. The meat was tender, and the combo of the american cheese with peppers on a beautiful hoagie roll really elevate this sandwich. A side of sweet potato fries with their mind-blowing, in-house chipotle fry sauce complement this dish well.
Leon’s Sandwich is exactly what you need before starting an early morning round on the course. Two fried eggs, pepper jack cheese, sausage and their delicious chipotle fry sauce inside a ciabatta roll is as delicious as it is hearty.
Their bacon cheeseburger tasted fresh and homemade, their grilled cheese sandwich was a hit with our kids and the hot dog and tater tots were devoured by our 3 year old. The french fries are double fried. Crispy on the outside, tender on this inside.
To top off the meal, the Utah Golf Guy recommends the Albatross cookie for dessert. This creative concoction consists of a crumbled oatmeal cookie baked with brown sugar, flour, oats, chocolate chips, pecans, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, kosher salt and coconut. This deconstructed cookie is then placed on top of a bowl filled to the brim with vanilla ice cream. This dessert may have lasted on the table for about 2 minutes before the bowl was licked completely clean.
The Staff
The owners of the Sand Trap Cafe, Brent and Angie Simons, have been long term residents of Springville, and have been regulars at Hobble Creek for many years. Their love of golf, people and food were the perfect catapult to start the Cafe when invited by the Hobble Creek staff in 2020. Having owned and operated a construction company for many years, they truly enjoy the challenge and rewards of being entrepreneurs. Together, with their five children, they have turned their passions for golf and food into the best public golf course restaurant in Utah County.
Final Take
If you are tired of run of the mill hot dogs and sandwiches offered at most golf courses in Utah County, do yourself a favor and eat at the Sand Trap Cafe at Hobble Creek Golf Course. Come for the golf, stay for the food. You will not be disappointed!
