Course Summary

Hobble Creek is one of the most beautiful mountain courses in all of Utah. Located in Springville, it is highly recommended to play this course deep into the fall where a flood of leaf colors pepper the entire course and cover the Wasatch Mountain Range. Although located at the base of a mountain this course is entirely walkable with green to next tee box distance being very minimal.

The course used to be the home of the Brigham Young University women’s golf team and has thus hosted some of the best collegiate players in the country. Local PGA greats Mike Weir, Billy Casper, and Johnny Miller can still be found playing this beautiful course.

This course features tree-lined fairways with the actual Hobble Creek winding its way throughout the course. The towering mountains provide a fantastic backdrop for each tee shot.

Hobble Creek isn’t necessary long, topping out at 6,406 yards from the back tees, however to its defense, the course has fast, sloped greens that force you to make accurate approach shots. If you get above the hole you are facing a likely three putt. The front nine has plenty of room for your tee shots and eases you into the round but the back nine is much narrower and requires accuracy off the tee. Putting the ball in play is paramount on this course.

Specifics

Fairways – The fairways in the middle of October were in great shape. Healthy grass throughout. As with any mountain course, severe slopes and awkward stances occur but overall the fairways play fair.  Of the drive able holes (par 4s and 5s) 7 of the holes are straight, 6 go dogleg left and zero go dogleg right.

Greens – Fast, sloped greens that force you to make an accurate approach shot. Landing above the hole invites a three putt.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #1 Par 4 400 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

This opening hole is beautifully setup with the mountains to the left, pond on the right and a small bunker on the top side of the green. The elevated tee shot soars in the air against the majestic background of the autumn leaves and soaring mountains. A large landing area on the right side of the fairway allows you to ease into your round and enjoy the beauty that is Hobble Creek.

Clubhouse Pick:  #6 or #1

Most Beautiful - #4 Par 3 190 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Trees line both sides of the fairway and the back of green gives a “cathedral feel” to this hole. In late October this hole bursts with colors which might distract you from reaching the green.

Clubhouse Pick: #1

Birdie Time - #3 Par 5 495 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

A decent tee shot to the right side of the fairway will give you shot at reaching in two. Stay away from the two bunkers on the right side of the green and you will have a fantastic opportunity for Birdie.

Clubhouse Pick: #3 or #7

Likely Bogey - #17 Par 4 420 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Most holes throughout the course have tight fairways but this one might beat them all. Not to mention it is a dogleg left that can affect bombers off the tee. Playing it safe with an iron leaves you another long iron into the green. Risking the driver could leave you in the trees.

Must be center or right fairway to see the green. A creek runs 50 years in front of the putting surface with two small bunkers on both sides of. Trees are extremely narrow down the fairway but are even tighter closer to the green. Must be accurate off the tee and on the approach to have a green in regulation.

Clubhouse Pick: #12

Best Par 5 - #13 450 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

At 450 yards, this Par 5 is reachable in 2 but it will take an almost perfect tee shot. One of the tightest fairways on the course, it would take a perfect push draw (for a right hander) to use driver on this hole. The smart play is to pull out your 235 yard club and land it on the right side of the fairway. This leaves you with a 205 yard approach to the downhill green. If you play left or even center of the fairway, it will leave you with a blind approach shot.

A creek runs across the fairway, 50 yards from the green. Bunker on the right side. If played correctly, this could be an easy birdie. If you play from the trees, this could be a difficult bogey hole.

Clubhouse Pick: #13
