Course Summary

Lakeside Golf course in West Bountiful, is true to its name with various man-made lakes and creeks throughout. The course is relatively flat and plays easy if you can stay out of the hazards.

Specifics

Clubhouse was average both inside and out. A little outdated but functional. The course features two practice putting greens, one small one by the #1 tee box and a large one by the clubhouse and the #16 tee box. The large practice green is beautiful with a few manmade lakes surrounding it. Driving range is good with lots of space for plenty of golfers. Staff was good over the phone and fantastic in person.

Conditions

The greens played quick but were quite bumpy with various ball marks littering each hole. The fairways were in good shape but did have a few bare spots. Sand bunkers were packed down and played more like light dirt than sand. Rough was almost non-existent as we move into the fall season.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #12 Par 5 497 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

#12 and #13 are easily my two favorite holes on this course. These two holes give such a different feel and look than the rest of the course. #12 is a short par 5 that plays longer due to the forced layup off the tee. A marshy creek runs along the left side and juts into the fairway about 190 yards short of the green. There is maybe 10 yards of fairway at the skinniest part but a layup off the drive is the smart and sensible play. OB houses line the right side so your drive must be put into play. About 150 yards away from the front of the green lies a separate creek, which runs all the way up the right side. Another separate, large pond is found short and to the left of the green. To recap, a marsh runs all along the left side and into the fairway, OB houses on the right of the tee shot, a creek runs along the right side up to the green and yet another pond on the left side of the green. Needless to say, hit clubs that go straight as there is no margin for error on this hole.

Green is protected by a bunker on the front left, front right and back left of the hole. Green is deep and wide and slopes aggressively uphill and towards the pond on the left.

Clubhouse Pick: 6 or 12 or 13

Most Beautiful - #13 Par 4 395 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Another hole that is beautiful but deadly. This hole could be considered the signature hole, most beautiful, best par 4 AND most likely bogey. To give some light to some other holes, we’ll keep it as the most beautiful and likely bogey hole. Similar to the prior hole, straight shots are necessary to stay out of trouble. The tee box sits right behind a large pond which sole purpose is to intimidate. Another marsh area runs along the left side and again juts into the fairway about 140 yards short of the green forcing another layup. Leave yourself 160 yards for your approach shot and you’ll have a chance to leave with par. The marsh runs the entire length of the hole, from tee to green. The right side is OB filled with trees and private property. Green is deep and slopes aggressively uphill. If you were to lose a ball (or 2) on this course, this would be the hole.

Clubhouse Pick: 6 or 18

Birdie Time - #14 Par 3 135 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

A very straightforward, short par 3. OB on the left, plenty of room on the right. Little to no room to the left and behind the hole. Green is small and skinny. A ridge runs across the middle of the green creating a mini tier separating the front from the back.

Clubhouse Pick: 1

Likely Bogey - #13 Par 4 395 Yards

Clubhouse Pick: 13

Best Par 3 - #16 185 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score -Bogey

Another short par 3 with a beautiful pond on the right side of the hole. OB to the left, trees and a bunker to the right. Small green slopes uphill and towards the road. A severe windstorm occurred weeks before so torn down trees line the right side of the green.

Clubhouse Pick: 16

Best Par 4 - #18 417 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

A great finishing hole with the best approach shot on the course. Trees and a creek run along the entire left side. Just a handful of trees on the right. A beautiful pond creates a forced carry on the approach. Hit an extra club as the green has a false front and slopes aggressively uphill.

 Clubhouse Pick: 18

Best Par 5 - #6 481 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

If not for holes 12 and 13, this would be the Utah Golf Guy’s pick for the signature hole. The fairway zigs and zags starting out with a slight dogleg left an then back to a dogleg right. A small creek runs across the tee boxes and empties into a small pond on the right side. Another pond, starting from the 250 yard marker, runs all the way up to the green on the right side. Hitting from the right side of the fairway might force you to hit over this large pond. Left fairway is best throughout the hole.

Green is deep and slopes uphill with a false side on the right that could potentially push your ball into the hazard. The entire green slopes towards the water. A small bunker protects the front left side. Really fun hole.

Clubhouse Pick: 6
