Course Summary

Oquirrh Hills is a little hidden gem that I had not heard much about. Assuming it was a po-dunk course in a po-dunk town the Utah Golf Guy was pleasantly surprised (both about the course and the town). The course is short but has some fun elevation changes that give variety and beauty. The front nine are gradual slopes with all tees to green either going all the way uphill or downhill. The back 9 has more dramatic holes with huge elevation drops (#11 specifically). Fun to have variety and beauty on the different 9’s.  The day the UGG played was EXTREMELY windy with either a tailwind or headwind on every hole. This really played with the distance of some of these holes. Not sure if heavy wind is a common occurrence at this course but it actually made the course even more fun, allowing you to drive some of the greens with an extra 20-30 yards of distance or playing more stinger type shots off the tee going into the wind.

The clubhouse was fun albeit very tight and small on the inside. An older log cabin feel with a wraparound desk giving views of the course and practice facilities. Cafe with grill is located inside with a good variety of food and snacks. Also an outdoor dining area on the patio. Next to the clubhouse is an outdoor event space with lights, fans and a covering for bad weather. Not grand by any means but also a great option for a golf course to host additional events.

The practice facilities were solid with a full driving ranging, hitting off grass, with 20 bays. While the conditions of the driving range landing area were poor overall it has everything a golfer needs. A large practice putting green sits between the clubhouse and the driving range. Offers great variance in slope and distance. Tucked away are 2 chipping greens with 1 offering a greenside bunker to practice in.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #11 Par 4 345 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Par

Clubhouse Pick: 12/14

The views on the tee box of #11 are gorgeous. Huge, elevated tee box can see over the entire course with mountains, creek and pond all in the background. A creek runs along the entire left side of a fairway that runs at a 45 degree angle to the green. A beautiful wooden bridge connects you to the fairway. While this hole looks intimidating, just stay out of the creek on the left side and there is not much trouble. Hole plays much shorter than it looks as well. With some helping wind and elevated tee box, the Utah Golf Guy landed just 10 yards short of the green.

Approach shot is relatively flat. There is a pond behind the green that shouldn’t come into play unless you blade the approach shot. A valley runs through the middle of the green leaving both sides elevated and everything running to the middle. Tough green to land and stay on.

Most Beautiful - #11

Birdie Time - #1 Par 5 495 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

Clubhouse Pick: 1

Elevated tee box and a tailwind make this short par 5 play like a slightly longer par 4. Hole plays downhill from tee box to green. Road on the right is the only real danger on the entire hole. Big hitters should be hitting a wedge to the green for their 2nd. Green is completely round and slopes from front to back. Green is protected by a single bunker on the front left.

Likely Bogey - #9 Par 3 240 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Clubhouse Pick: 9

The longest par 3 on the course with the smallest green. That combo alone makes this the toughest hole on the course. 240 yards from the tips. No real trouble between the tee and the green, just length. From this distance, will need to roll up on the green to keep it on. The back edge of the green is a sharp drop off, forcing a very difficult chip back up. Must land below the hole as the green slopes aggressively from front to back.

Best Par 3 - #13 185 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Clubhouse Pick: 13

A beautiful par 3 with a forced carry, beautiful pond. Depending on the wind direction, this hole can be tricky to gauge distance. A huge head wind face the UGG forcing him to play 2 clubs up. Green side bunker on the front left. Views of the mountains in the background are gorgeous. Only the back 2 tees have to go over the water, the front 2 just have to go over a slight portion of the right side of the pond. Green is wide and relatively deep with a lower tier in the front and upper tier in the back. There is also a little swell on the front right side. Fun and beautiful hole

Best Par 4 - #10 350 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

Clubhouse Pick: 10/12/16

Similar to hole #1, this hole plays much shorter than the yardage due to the helping wind and the layout going downhill from tee to green. The UGG hit a solid drive and ended up 7 yards short of the green. Beautiful view of the mountains from the tee box. Green slopes aggressively from front to back with mounds and swells everywhere.

Best Par 5 - #14 575 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Clubhouse Pick: 14

Very unique start to this hole. To play the tips you need to park your cart and hike on a little trail past a residential farmhouse/ranch. The tee box is literally in the backyard of this home. The tee box is directly over the 13th green and provides beautiful views of both mountains and water (along with the local cows and farm animals). This hole plays on the top of a hill, with the entire left side sloping down to the pond of the 13th hole. The closer you ride the left side of the fairway, the better shape you will be on your approach but there is risk involved. If you decide to stay away from trouble, just aim to the right. Will make the hole play much longer but no risk is involved. Green is elevated and extremely slanted, sloping dramatically uphill from front to back. The green reminds you of a mini-golf hole with the amount of slope. Land below the hole or you could potentially 3 putt. Very fun and unique hole from tee shot to flag.
