Course Summary

Meadow Brook Golf Course is located in the South Salt Lake Valley. Built in 1951, the course has established, mature trees throughout the course. The course is beautiful, with lush vegetation throughout and water coming into play on a variety of holes. Not a lot of sand bunkers on the course, but the few they have are strategically placed.

Meadow Brook is flat and  walkable by all who are able. The practice facilities are fantastic. Two large putting greens, one by the first hole and a second one by the #10 fairway. Just past the 2nd putting green is a nice chipping green. There is room to practice any type of shots from 100 yards and in. The only knock of the practice facilities is the size of the driving range. Only a few bays are available limiting the number of golfers that can hit.

Course Conditions

Unfortunately, the course was not in the greatest shape on this visit. The greens were different colors but fortunately, rolled true. The back nine had some terrible fairways with large chunks pulled up (especially on hole #14). The tee boxes were lumpy and uneven, making every tee shot a balancing act. The conditions did not live up to the beautiful views throughout the course.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole: #18 Par 5 506 Yards

The final tee shot on the course is also the best. I was all set to crown #2 as the signature hole until I rolled up to the #18 tee box. Tiny opening between trees and water stirs the nerves on this hole on the tee shot. 240 yards to carry the water from the tips. 220 yard carry from the blues and 210 yards from the whites (although the whites have a small island fairway if you want to layup from here, not an option from the black or blue tees). The line for the drive should be just to the right of the most right tree on the left side of the fairway. If you can land on the fairway, you will have a decent shot at reaching the green in two.

The approach shot will be uphill so you will need to club up accordingly. Green is deep and slopes from left to right and uphill. If you can’t clear the water, this is a possible bogey hole. If you can clear the water into the fairway, this is a birdie hole.

Clubhouse Pick: 18

Most Beautiful - #2 Par 5 552 Yards

Long Par 5 with big trees and houses all along the left side. Trees start on the right side starting from the 250 yards marker. A beautiful pond sits on the left and front sides of the green, deterring anyone from reaching the green in two. Small landing area on the right side of the green but laying up is the smart play. Green slopes uphill with a large ridge on the back half of the green forming a minor shelf on the topside. Green is wide and deep. If not for #18, this would be the signature hole.

Clubhouse Pick: 18

Birdie Time - #14 Par 5 521 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

A tough call between #14 and #15. I’ll go with #15 because of how short it plays as a Par 5. Fairway is dogleg right with water on the right side that will not come into play until the second shot. There is a lot of room on the left fairway but this lengthens the hole considerably. Recommended to land on the right side of the fairway, a long iron over the water and onto the green, two putt for birdie and on to the next hole. Green is deep and slopes uphill.

The fairway, starting from the 150 yard marker, is in terrible shape. Thankfully, Meadow Brook is taking care of this grass soon, signified by the paint outlinings around the patches of dead grass.

Clubhouse Pick: 14

Likely Bogey - #7 Par 4 431 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Trouble awaits the #7 hole. The whole left side of the fairway is blinded by a variety of pond plants that you need to carry to reach the fairway. From the blacks, 190 yards to carry the pond, 225 yards to reach the fairway. Aim directly over the left edge of the pond that sticks out onto the hole. Fairway opens up on the left side. If hitting your approach from the left fairway, you will need to carry another portion of that same pond to reach the green. If hitting from the right fairway, no need to carry the water but it will add an extra 10-15 yards on the approach. Room to the right of the green, water to the left. Green is small and slopes uphill.

Clubhouse Pick: 5 or 7

Best Par 3 - #6 159 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

The shortest par 3 on the course is also the best. Commercial parking lot if you hook it, water if you hit short right. Green looks level to the tee box from the tee box, but looking back from the green it appears to be a few yards uphill. A large tree on the left side has overhanging branches but should not come into play if you hit a straight shot. False front on the green. Green is deep and slopes aggressively uphill.

Clubhouse Pick: 8

Best Par 4 - #12 312 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Short Par 4 that is reachable for big hitters. Another narrow opening for the tee shot between trees. Trouble on the right with thick trees and houses. Running parallel to the fairway and green is another fairway and green that are not being used for another hole. If miss hit left, good chance you can still end up on a fairway. Green is protected by a front left bunker for those trying to run up their tee shots on the left side. Green is extremely wide and slopes from left to right downhill. Not a lot of risk on this hole unless you slice it off the tee shot.
