Course Summary

Glen Eagle Golf Club is a link-style course inspired by the Gleneagles Golf Course in Scotland (home of the 2014 Ryder Cup). Water is in play on almost every hole but the rolling fairways are extremely wide. The course is wide open (in classic link style fashion) with holes 16 and 17 being the exception. Greens are large with gentle slopes. Fun course for all types of golfers.

The practice facilities at Glen Eagle are fantastic! The one putting green is large and allows for a variety of different shots. A chipping green allows for 80 yard shots, along with a practice sand bunker that was in tremendous shape (rare in Utah). The driving range is good, I just wish there were more bays to hit from as it was completely full after my round.

The clubhouse is a little outdated on the outside but looks and feels great on the inside. The pro shop is spacious and stocked. The young man working the pro shop was fantastic! He took the time to answer my questions and increased my knowledge of the course. Helpful and friendly. The staff on the course was friendly as well.

Conditions

The front nine is in great shape! Fairways were lined and cut perfect with little to no dead spots. The same cannot be said for the back nine. Dirt patches were found on landing areas in the fairways and the tee boxes on the back nine were uneven, spongy and littered with weeds (the black tees). The rough was cut nicely but was uneven on certain holes. The sand bunkers were perfect (and I played out of them quite a bit). Full, soft sand that played how you would expect. The greens were also in good shape (I had a worker always one hole ahead of me with the green’s mower).

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #18 Par 5 560 Yards "Loch Ness Monster"

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

This hole is just plain fun! This long Par 5 is aptly nicknamed the Lock Ness Monster. Houses on the left and the #10 hole on the right. A pond lines the right side of all the tee boxes but should not come into play for decent players. Fairway slopes uphill. Your target area off the tee should be the clubhouse. Unless you bomb your drive you will be forced to layup. Recommended (as always) to layup to the distance that you are most comfortable with. The approach shot on this hole is fantastic! The island green is surrounded by a large, moat-like pond. Three bunkers protect the entire front side of the green. Another bunker sits on the back left. A tiny walkway on the backside connects the golfer to the green. The green is wide and deep, especially on the right side. This hole is all about the approach shot. Due to the bunkers, getting on in two is next to impossible (without blowing up the scorecard).

Clubhouse Pick: 18

Most Beautiful - #17 Par 4 370 Yards "Stone Haven"

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Stone Haven is a beautiful hole with streams running along both sides of the fairway. The left side creek runs into the middle of the fairway about 60 yards short of the green. Heavy trees on the left make the recommended landing spot on the right fairway. Sand bunker protect the front left and back right of the green. Green slopes downhill from left to right.

Clubhouse Pick: 6/12/18

Birdie Time - #5 Par 4 375 Yards " Heather's Bloom"

Utah Golf Guy's score - Par

Heather’s Bloom is as straight forward as it gets. Wide fairway, creek on the right side and a sloping hill on the left side. The only real trouble on this hole is the small bunker protecting the front left side of the green. Green is slightly elevated so it is recommended to layup to your preferred yardage and hit a full shot over the bunker. Green slopes uphill on the right side and from right to left.

Clubhouse Pick: 3

Likely Bogey - #4 Par 4 460 Yards "Firth's Landing"

Utah Golf Guy's score - Bogey

Firth’s Landing has an extremely wide fairway. Houses run all along the left side and a creek runs along the right side getting much wider around the green. Fairway is undulated making it tough to have a level stance for the approach. Green is deep and slopes uphill, from front to back. Approach plays slightly uphill so play your shot 5 yards longer than the yardage shows.

Clubhouse Pick: 12

Best Par 3 - #15 200 Yards "Paddie's Laire"

Utah Golf Guy's score - Bogey

Paddie’s Laire provides a forced carry over a thick waste area. There are bail out areas on the left and right so just make sure that you clear the forced carry. Green is deep and slopes uphill. The Women’s Tee box might be a 40 yard chip shot. Easily the “Birdie Time” hole for those playing the red tees.

 Clubhouse Pick: 2

Best Par 4 - #17 370 Yards "Stone Haven"

Utah Golf Guy's score - Bogey

Clubhouse Pick: 5

Best Par 5 - #6 550 Yards "Links Land"

Utah Golf Guy's score - Par

Plan ahead before teeing off on Links Land. A creek slips into the fairway from the left side. This creek is 315 yards from the back tees but those hitting from closer will have three options (1) big hitters can attempt to hit over the creek, (2) there is a skinny portion of the fairway that goes to the right of the creek that you will have to thread the ball through or (3), layup. Be aware that there is a large tree at the end of the creek on the right, you do not want to be caught right behind it. Two fairway bunkers sit on the left side, two greenside bunkers protect the front right side. If you can hit past the creek, your next shot will have plenty of room to run a long iron or wood up to the green. Bunkers and creek on the right side, no danger to the left of the green.  Green is deep, slopes uphill and has a small backstop on the backside. Small false front.
