Course Summary

Canyon Breeze golf course, located in Beaver, is a very unique 9 hole course. The course has everything from water, trees, elevated tee boxes and yes, even a horse track that runs through the middle of hole #7.

On the website, their maxim states, “Utah’s toughest 9-hole golf course”. They might just be right. If you land your approach on any green, there is a great chance that it will roll off on the opposite side. These are some of the most unaccepting greens that I have ever played. It is recommended to land your approach shot a few yards short of each green and allow it to trickle onto the front side. Most of the greens are tiered or have severe slopes, reminiscent of a mini-golf course. This course can punish good shots if you don’t know how to play these types of greens.

Specifics

Clubhouse is decent size but was quite ordinary on both the inside and outside. A snack bar was located on the inside. The practice facilities include a mini-sized driving range (220 yards max) and an average putting green. The staff was very friendly on the phone, in the clubhouse and out on the course. This course was unique but a little frustrating. I am a fan of courses rewarding good shots and punishing bad ones. I had too many good shots that were punished on this course.

Conditions

Unfortunately, the course was not in good shape during my visit. Tee boxes were ripped to shreds, fairways had ginormous dead spots and the greens were crusty on the edges. The bunkers played decent although they could have used a little more sand.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #7 Par 5 485 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

This is one of the more unique holes that I have ever played. The tee box and the first cut of fairway is actually in the center of a horse track. Left middle of the horse track is the fairway, right middle is the driving range. Land your drive inside the horse track, and then hit over the track on your second shot. Drive must be left fairway to see green for your second shot. Beyond the horse track, all on the right side is an OB fence that runs from the 115 yard marker all the way to the green. Lining the fence are tall, thick trees that will knock down any shot in the vicinity. Green is small and slopes uphill. A valley collects balls on the right side of the green.

Clubhouse Pick: 7

Most Beautiful - #9 Par 4 322 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

A short par 4 for the closing hole. Heavy pine trees on the left and a forced carry over a pond in the middle. Must hit about 190 yards from the back tees to clear the pond. Stay out of the trees on the left and the water and there is no bad place for the drive to go. Bunkers protect the front left and front right. Green slopes uphill with a false front. This hole is reachable off the drive for big hitters.

Clubhouse Pick: 8 or 9

Clubhouse Pick: 4 or 5

Likely Bogey - #6 Par 4 333 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

From tee to green this hole seems pretty ordinary. The horse track appear on the left and a public road lined with trees and a fence (OB) is on the right. But, this hole plays anything but ordinary once you reach the green. False edges throughout the green make it almost impossible to land your approach and keep it on. Green is the most undulated green on the course. You will feel like you are mini-golfing. I was lucky to two-putt for my bogey (made a 10 footer). This could easily be a three or four putt green. This fairway is the worst on the course, humongous dead spots throughout.

Clubhouse Pick: 3 or 7

Best Par 3 - #2 191 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

A large, elevated tee box hitting into a descending green. A field is on the right side, large trees on the left side. Bunker protects the front left side. A grass valley runs to the right of the green. Green is two-tiered with a humongous slope separating the high side (back) and the low side (front). Must land on the correct tier to have a shot at birdie. If hole is in the front, landing on the back tier is a guaranteed bogey.
