Course Summary

Lake Course is a beautiful, traditional parkland course residing in the Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway, Utah. This side is considered the easier of the 36 holes although it does play 500 yards longer. The views cannot be beat with not only the mature trees and various lakes and ponds but the mountains in the horizon will give you goosebumps. One of the prettiest golf courses in the state during the fall as the leaves are changing colors. The par 3’s are average at best but 3 out of the 4 par 5’s are spectacular and quite memorable (#9, #14 and #17).

Wasatch clubhouse is nice and functional. The staff were cordial and helpful in the clubhouse and on the course but unfortunately were a little impatient and frustrated on the phone (two times). Practice facilities are great with a large putting green in front of the clubhouse and a well-maintained driving range.

Course Conditions

Course conditions were out of this world! Fairways are wide and are in almost perfect condition. The greens rolled true and were quite quick in the morning and slowed down in the afternoon. Rough looked thick and lush but did not grab the club as expected. Sand bunkers played and looked as expected early in the morning. Course was green, crisp and memorable. This course is recommended to all Utah golfers!

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #9 Par 5 489 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

The most difficult tee shot on the course. A dogleg right that requires strategy and skill. Hitting a driver straight will land you in a thick area of trees and bushes (you will not find your ball). From the tips, this wooded area is 285 yards, from the whites, this area is 250 yards from the tee box. If hitting driver, you need to hit a high fade or cut the corner on the right side. A small creek also lines the right side if you go too far that way. To reach the green in two, stay on the right side of the fairway. If unable to control your driver, laying up with a long iron is the recommended play. Fairway slopes uphill and is extremely skinny. Green is wide and deep. Green slopes aggressively and has a false front. I’m confident this hole has seen its fair share of birdies and double bogeys. Everything depends on the drive.

Clubhouse Pick: 9, 14, 18

Most Beautiful - #10 Par 4 401 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Elevated tee box hitting into a narrow opening between trees. Fairway opens up if you can hit past these goalpost trees. Approach shot is downhill to the green. Green slopes uphill. Beautiful tee shot, beautiful and full trees line both sides of the fairway and the majestic mountains in the background.

Clubhouse Pick: 16

Birdie Time - #4 Par 4 405 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Short Par 4 that plays downhill all the way to the green. Due to the downhill slope, this hole plays much shorter than the yardage. Fairway also slopes from right to left so hitting your tee shot on the right side will funnel your drive to the middle of the fairway. Green is wide, deep and has a false front. Slopes severely uphill.

Clubhouse Pick: 1 or 4

Likely Bogey - #12 Par 4 447 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Another elevated tee box hitting into a downhill sloping fairway. No room on the right side of the fairway, a little more forgiving on the left side. Long par 4 with the most difficult green on the course. Green slopes aggressively uphill and from right to left.

Clubhouse Pick: 3

Best Par 3 - #16 200 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

My backup selection for the most beautiful hole. Water wraps around the left side and back of the hole but should not come into play. Green sits slightly downhill from the tee box. Green is protected by two deep side bunkers, one on each side. Green slopes uphill. Large mound on the back left side of the green. Fun and beautiful par 3.

Clubhouse Pick: 8 or 16

Best Par 4 - #18 384 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Both finishing holes on both 9’s are fantastic. #18 hits into a wide, uphill, dogleft right fairway. From the 100 yard marker the green is straight uphill, choose your yardage carefully. Green is blind from the approach shot. Green has a false front and slopes uphill and from right to left.

Clubhouse Pick: 4 or 5

Best Par 5 - #17 516 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

A tough pick between holes #14 and #17. #17 has a slightly uphill fairway that turns into a dogleg right. At the dogleg, the fairway gets extremely narrow with trees and bushes lining both sides. Must land your tee shot in the fairway to get a green in regulation. A lone pink tree is a good visual for where to aim your tee shot. Green is one of the smallest on the course and is quite undulated. Behind the green is a strip of deep bushes. Short is the safe approach on this hole.

Clubhouse Pick: 9 or 14
