Course Summary

Rose Park Golf Course is on the northwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley, just minutes from both downtown and the Salt Lake City Airport. Designed in 1958, the course was originally a 9 hole course but expanded to 18 holes in the 1970’s.

The course has a variety of pine and willow trees, a few sand bunkers but no water. A few waste areas are found past the rough but in order to lose a ball you really need to hit a poor shot. Rose Park is extremely flat with little to no elevation changes on any of the holes.

The track is not in great shape at the moment. Huge dead spots are found on each fairway and the tee boxes are quite chewed up. The layout is very straight-forward with a few, subtle doglegs. Quite easy course with the ability to post some low scores.

This course is quite popular with the locals as it is booked out all the way into November. As mentioned, the course is not in great shape but the saving grace were the greens and the staff. The greens were in fantastic shape and rolled true. Most greens were flat with a gradual slope from front to back. No tiers or shelves throughout the whole course. The staff was also great! Very friendly and were willing to tend and help out all of the patrons in the pro shop.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #10 Par 3 173 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Par

To be honest, not too many holes were memorable on this course. Holes #13 or #15 could have been selected but I decided on the Par 3 sitting right next to the practice putting green. A straightaway shot to a slightly elevated green. The green has a slight false front with a ridge in the middle going from left to right. The green is protected by a bunker on the front right. The green is deeper than it appears from the tees so choose your distance wisely. According to the clubhouse; during late September and October this hole is absolutely stunning with a colorful of leaves in the background.

Clubhouse Pick: #10

Most Beautiful - #15 Par 4 345 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Par

A slight dogleg right to the green. If you can hit a solid fade you can be right at the neck of the green and chip on for an easy birdie. If not, layup 230 yards to the left side of the fairway which will leave you with a simple 120 yard wedge into this small green. Green is protected by 2 side bunkers but is wide open if you angle your tee shot straight or to the left side. Green is relatively flat with a small slope in the front (creating a minor false front). Past the front of the green there is a gentle slope from left to right. Pine trees line the fairways and the back of the green. Paired with 2 large bunkers this hole is by far the most beautiful (and easiest) on the course.

Likely Bogey - #3 Par 4 470 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Bogey

A long Par 4 with a wide fairway. Trees and waste area to the left, and more trees to the right. The green is quite large and has a false front. Green slopes from front to back and from left to right. At 470 yards, you will need 2 good shots to reach the green in 2. A view of downtown Salt Lake City can be seen on the left side of the fairway.

Clubhouse Pick: #10

Best Par 4 - #13 356 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Par

A dogleg left with trees lining both sides of the fairway. Once past the dogleg the fairway gets quite narrow. From the tips you will need to carry 256 to cut the corner. Best angle is the right side of the fairway to clear yourself from the large, left side bunker guarding the green. Once on the green, putting is relatively flat.

Clubhouse Pick: #13 or #15

Best Par 5 - #1 493 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Eagle

A dogleg left starts off the round. The initial tee shot is right over a creek, which continues along the entire left side of the fairway. Cutting the corner too far left risks the possibility of hitting in the hazard. Need to end your tee shot with at least 220 yards to have a straightway shot at the green. Large bunker guards the left side of the green. Green slopes from front to back. Really the only hole on the course that has the potential of hitting into water.

Clubhouse Pick: #11
