COURSE SUMMARY

Canyon’s Golf Course is located in Park City surrounded by the Wasatch and Uinta mountain ranges. The course takes advantage of the natural landscape of a beautiful ski resort, Canyon’s Resort. Although the course was obviously built after the ski resort, the designer did a fantastic job with what they had. The layout and overall views will keep you coming back. Nearly every hole has a view of either the majestic mountain ranges or beautiful valleys below. The course is beautiful, unique and memorable.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the clubhouse or the practice facilities. In fact, there is no “clubhouse”. The Pro Shop is scrunched between other retail shops away from the actual course. Getting to the pro shop requires you to park the golf cart near the number 1 tee box, then walking a ways to find the pro shop in between other stores.

But, the downfall of this course is actually the practice facilities. Next to the #1 tee box is a decent sized putting green. Not a lot of holes or room to chip but enough to get ready for your round. But, no driving range at the Canyon’s Golf Course. Instead, they have two adjacent cages with nets to practice on. This is a shame, and really gives this course a rinky-dink vibe before you even tee off.

Fortunately, the actual course makes up for the lack of amenities. The staff was great. Extremely friendly and helpful throughout the day. But, the best features of the course are the views. A few of the tee shots from the tips are some of the best views I have seen in Utah. If you can forget about the clubhouse and practice facilities, you will really enjoy this course.

The conditions of this course were off the charts. This course has the BEST tee boxes I have played on yet this year. From afar, they almost looked fake, like artificial turf. It was mowed all the way down and completely flat with no bumps or swells. They looked like championship tee boxes. The greens were beautiful (albeit a little quick), but had so many tiers and slopes that they play quite difficult. Three putts are quite common on this course. The fairways and sand bunkers both looked and played fantastic.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #10 Par 5 503 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Without question, the best and most memorable hole on the course. In fact, the hole is so good that instead of a nine-hole round option, the course offers an 11-hole round to make sure that all players can see and experience this hole. From tee to green, this hole has a 297-foot elevation change. The views from the back set of tee boxes are out of this world. The fairway is blind from the actual hitting area (from the tips) so you will need to either scoot up to the edge of the tee box or go down a set of tees just to see where you are hitting.

If you can keep your tee shot in bounds, this hole plays as the easiest on the course. While the Utah Golf Guy is not a bomber, due to the elevation, he was hitting 135 yards to the green for the second shot. Two fairway bunkers on the left, one on the right. The fairway runs out 50 yards short of the hole leaving a forced carry on the approach. A large tree sits on the right front of the green so hitting the center or left fairway is ideal. Green is huge and undulated throughout.

Clubhouse Pick: 10

Most Beautiful - #3 Par 5 500 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Honestly, I could have picked 3 or 4 different holes to occupy this specific award. But, I will go with the beautiful first Par 5 on the course. Intimidating tee shot with mountain on the left and the fairway wrapping around the mountain. Cutting the corner requires you to aim for edge of the mountain which is always scary. Two fairway bunkers on the right side. Another fairway bunker on the right for those laying up and two humongous bunkers in the front of the green. The tee shot is elevated but the approach is straight uphill. Hit 1 or 2 clubs higher on the approach to carry the greenside bunkers.

A large ridge runs across the middle of the green separating the high side on the right and a bowl shape on the left. Green slopes aggressively uphill. Not sure if the prettier view is from the tee box or looking back towards the hole above the green?

Clubhouse Pick: 5

Birdie Time - #10 Par 5 503 Yards

Likely Bogey Hole - #7 Par 5 594 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

From tee to pin, this is one of the most difficult holes the Utah Golf Guy has played in a while. Each shot requires precision with no forgiveness if you spray your tee shot left (out of bounds) or right (mountain). The fairway slides to the left on the tee shot and then to the right on the second and potentially third shots. The fairway bunker sitting 170 yards from the hole cuts the length of the fairway to less than 10 yards as it juts into the fairway on the left side.

Once you have managed to keep your ball in play on the first two shots, you have one of the most difficult greens to deal with. The green itself is by far the deepest on the course and once you get closer, it almost appears to be built for a miniature golf course. There does not appear to be any portion of the green that is flat. False front and false side on the left. Green is undulated throughout with a large ridge throughout the middle creating separate levels of the green. If you don’t land on the right level of the flag, you could easily 4-putt. It’s not often that you are satisfied with a bogey on a Par 5. This is one of those holes.

Clubhouse Pick: 7 or 17

Best Par 3 - #16 170 Yards

Canyons Golf #16
Tee shot

Hole number 2 is the most unique Par 3. Number 6 offers the best view. However, hole number 16 is the best. Most courses, this memorable water hole would easily be the signature hole. The pond is beautiful, with a handmade rock wall lining the pond and the reflection of the majestic mountains seen from the tee shot. Green is deep and extremely undulated (sensing a theme?). Greenside bunker on the right and lots of landing room on the left. The green has a little swell on the front left side. Beautiful and memorable Par 3.

Clubhouse Pick: 6 or 16

Best Par 4 - #4 405 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

From the tips, arguably the best tee shot on the course. The tee box seems completely isolated (almost as if you are hitting from a cloud) and the landing spot on the fairway seems almost impossible from this distance. This tee box towers over the hole with views for miles. From the tips, it is a forced carry over mountain, dirt, cart path and a vertical pine tree. This tee shot is even more intimidating and beautiful than hole number 10. After the tee shot, the hole gets less exciting but your memories of this tee shot will never fade.

Clubhouse Pick: 4

Best Par 5 - #17 542 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

Another beautiful tee shot but this time hitting slightly uphill. A forced carry of 200 yards from the tips to even reach the fairway. A ski lift runs along the right side of the fairway so there is a good chance you will be playing this hole with some spectators up above. Fairway slopes from right to left all the way up the hole. Approach is uphill so make sure you blast your drive for a chance to reach in two. The green is deep and wide with a ridge on the backside creating a separate shelf on the backside.

Clubhouse Pick: 10
