Course Summary

Mulligans Golf Course is located in South Jordan, Utah directly off the Interstate 15 highway. The property is home to two 9-hole golf courses (one executive, another par 3), mini-golf course, foot golf course and batting cages. The location is more of a fun-zone than an actual golf course, focusing on corporate outings, private groups and birthday parties.

For this review, we will be focusing on the executive golf course, The Ridge (9 hole executive course), along with the practice facilities. This course is a par 33, 2177 yard track offering four Par 3’s, four par 4’s and one par 5. This course is simple in design and was built for beginners or for golfers who want to play a quick nine holes.

Specifics

When you play at Mulligan’s you know what you are going to get, basic golf at an affordable rate. While not the nicest course, the star of this property is the practice facilities. These are state of the art and can accommodate a boatload of people. These include four practice putting greens, including one of the largest putting surfaces I have seen in the state. A separate practice green for chipping along with a large sand bunker is also found next to the large putting green.

But, what Mulligan’s is known for is their tremendous driving ranges. Yes, multiple driving ranges. One side is grass, and has over 30 bays to hit from. The other driving range, separated by a large net, is on a two story concrete structure. The lower level is under the structure, has at least 30 bays and is a great place to hit balls in poor or extreme weather giving you protection from the elements. The second level is upper deck, hitting towards the flags from a simulated elevated tee box.

The clubhouse is an actual fun-zone center where you can purchase tickets for all of the activities listed. No typical pro shop equipment is found here.

The staff was friendly in person but kept me on hold for 13 minutes over the phone after not answering my previous two attempts.

Due to the course catering to beginners, the pace of play is extremely slow with less experienced golfers scattered throughout. This is a great place to bring a non-golfer or children with you, as you will be in no rush from hole 1 thru 9.

Conditions

The conditions of the course were not in good shape. Tee boxes were uneven, lumpy and dead. The entire green of hole #1 was sopping wet and the hole was filled with water. Dead spots are scattered throughout every fairway and the greens were chunky, thick and littered with ball marks (and a few angry putter marks). It played more like a mini-golf course than an actual course.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #9 Par 5 470 Yards

From tee to green, this is the best hole on the course. A pretty pond sits on the right side of the tee box doing nothing more than giving this hole a little more beauty. Another large pond runs along the left side of the fairway all the way up past the green (starting about 165 yards short of the green). There is plenty of room on the right side so error on that side if the water intimidates you. Two bunkers protect the left side of the green, wedged between the pond and the green. Green is deep and undulated. Fun finishing hole.

Clubhouse Pick: 9

Most Beautiful - # 8 Par 4 301 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

A short forced carry over a beautiful pond from the blue tees. No real danger to the left or to the right. Although the fairway was in the worst shape on the entire course, the views from the tee box and even from the green are nice. Fairway gets quite skinny about 80 yards from the green. Smaller green compared to the rest of the course. A false front on the right side, the rest of the green funnels all shots to back to the middle.

Not a tough hole but behind the tee box is the Jordan River Parkway Trail. During my round, teenagers would sit on the fence behind the tee box and would yell as loud as they could during my backswing before running away. I guess you could call this the Utah version of hole #16 at the Waste Management Open.

Clubhouse Pick: 8

Birdie Time - #6 Par 3 92 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

An extremely short par 3 (scorecard shows 92 yards, my round played about 78 yards). A rock wall lines the entire left side. Green is small but accessible. Green slopes slightly uphill. The Utah Golf guy thought he had his second career hole in one as the ball slid past the hole, 1 inch to the left, leaving me with an 18 inch birdie putt.

Clubhouse Pick: 2

Likely Bogey - #3 Par 4 373 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

No real “bogey hole” on this course but there is a little bit of trouble on this one. Off the tee, you can hit as far and as wide as you would like. Closer to the green, there is a marsh pond along the right side, filled with water and another marsh on the left side that is empty. A bunker protects the front right side of the green so left fairway is recommended for the best angle on the approach. Green is deep, wide and slopes uphill.

Clubhouse Pick: 1 or 5

Best Par 3 - #1 116 Yards

Aside from the sopping wet green, this hole is actually quite beautiful. A pond just to the right of the tee boxes and a creek that runs across the fairway all the way up towards the green gives this hole a pretty look. Tee shot is hit over the creek as well as some trees that sit in the middle of the fairway. Green is quite deep and has a ridge creating a low side (front) and high side (back).

Clubhouse Pick: 2 or 6

Best Par 4 - #5 229 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

A very unique, short par 4 that looks and can play like a par 3 if you can hit a high fade. The tee box is elevated and a grove of trees sits on the right side past the driving area. Those who can’t hit a consistent fade have the option of laying up at the end of the fairway (about 190 yards from the back tees) or you can attempt to land your shot on the left side green. Another rock wall lines the left side of the hole. The green is extremely wide and undulating. The green slopes downhill from left to right and slopes aggressively uphill on the right side. A large valley runs across the middle of this green separating the left from the right side.
