Course Summary

Logan Country Club is located at the mouth of Logan Canyon in the Wasatch Range. This is a private country club that offers a mature and overall fun golf course. The course plays shorter than most at 6100 yards, forcing each golfer to think their way through the round rather than overpower it. The course features both gentle and severe elevation changes from both the tee boxes and approach shots. Plenty of risk/reward holes (#5 and #14 come to mind) make this course exciting and risky at the same time.

Quite a few holes are played along the bluff, providing a unique beauty and diversity to your round. The tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens all looked and played immaculate. The only blemish on any of the greens was on #16. The grounds crew did an excellent job prepping and maintaining the track.

Specifics

Practice facilities were overall good. Eight locations along the driving range to hit from but no woods are allowed as the range is located in between two separate holes. A practice chipping green, along with a sand bunker was a nice touch. The lone putting green is well maintained but since it is the only putting green, I would expect it to be larger.

The two story clubhouse is beautiful, with a spacious locker room, dining space, fully stocked pro shop and quite a few conference rooms on the top floor. The outside looks rustic and the inside comes off as classy and inviting.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #14 Par 5 478 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey (3-putt)

The Logan Country Club signature hole is both beautiful and diabolical. Thick trees and a creek line the entirety of the left side. A large hill with thick brush and trees sit on the right. The fairway doglegs to the left, and becomes invisible after the turn. The hill on the right side creates a slope on the fairway, pushing every shot on the fairway to the left. What club to play is the toughest decision on this hole. A baby draw is the biggest reward play with a driver, if you can pull it off. But with so much danger on both sides of the hole, the big stick is risky. A driving iron will get you on the fairway but if you end up anywhere on the left side or short, you will be forced to layup on your second shot due to the trees on the left. 3-wood is the perfect play, IF you can keep it in play and put it on the right side of the fairway.

The approach is uphill to a bunkerless green. Green is deep, slopes aggressively uphill with a false front. This hole is a lot of fun, if you can keep your ball in play. Tough and alluring.

Clubhouse Pick: 14

Most Beautiful - #5 Par 4 330 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

The ultimate risk/reward hole on the entire course also provides the best view. Sitting along the bluff, this hole doglegs to the left with water and a brush-covered cliff all along the left side. The green sits on the edge of the bluff, with a forced carry over the water and cliff. While tempting to drive this green, the angle and carry distance (265 yards from the Blues) don’t make this a smart bet. The smart play is to lay up to the fairway on the right, about 205 yards being the perfect shot distance from the blues. This will leave you with a beautiful, downhill approach shot into a large, bunkerless green. Gauge your distance correctly on the approach as the green sits on top of a cliff all around the left and backside. There is a small backstop on the green, but don’t test it with a cliff on the other side.

Clubhouse Pick: 5 or 17

Birdie Time - #10 Par 4 327 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

A short par 4 that doglegs slightly to the right. Bombers with a baby fade can potentially reach the front of the green. Four bunkers surround the green but a large opening in the front makes this hole quite accessible. Green is small but relatively flat.

Clubhouse Pick: 10

Likely Bogey - #14 Par 5 478 Yards

Best Par 3 - #12 150 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Most of the Par 3’s on this course have an elevated tee shot (from the blues), and this hole is no exception. A ditch runs along the left side, trees along the right. Green is deep, wide and accessible. Green slopes aggressively downhill, from right to left. This is the most undulated green on the course so gauge your putting speed wisely.

Clubhouse Pick: 12 or 13

Best Par 4 - #5 330 Yards

Best Par 5 - #3 565 Yards

An elevated tee box gives a great view of this beautiful hole. The fairways runs at about a 30 degree angle from right to left. The fairway sits up on top of the bluff, with the left side falling down into the road.. CANNOT GO LEFT OFF THE TEE SHOT! Fairway slopes downhill all the way to the green. Green is protected by a front left and front right sand bunker. A large tree with overhanging branches will affect your approach on the left side. Smart to play on the right side of this hole throughout.

Green is deep and slopes aggressively uphill. There is a backstop behind the hole so feel free to be aggressive attacking a back pin location.

Clubhouse Pick: 14
