Course Summary
The self-proclaimed “best kept secret in Utah Valley”, welcome to the Fox Hollow Golf Course review. Fox Hollow golf course is located in American Fork, Utah offering beautiful views of towering mountains in the near distance. The course was developed over 48 years ago which has created lots of full, mature trees throughout.
If you can bomb off the tee, you can absolutely overpower this course. Only a few holes require a drive in the fairway leaving quite a bit of room for error. This course offers very few sand bunkers, and water really only comes into play on a couple of holes.
Specifics
The clubhouse is quite nice but the practice facilities might be among the best in the entire state. The driving range is ginormous, housing 24 bays with extra room on the sides along with stadium lights. 400 yards long, BYU and UTAH flags mark the 150 yard distances and the breathtaking mountains appear in the background on every shot. 2 separate and large putting greens are well maintained and a lot of fun. The BYU golf teams have their own practice facilities here (which you can see to the right of the #8 hole).
Fairways – The entire course is in great shape and the fairways are no exception. Using Kentucky Blue and Rye grass, the fairways are wide, green, manicured and give a good feel for each iron shot. The majority of the fairways are flat and smooth. The rough does not affect your shot during the Fall season allowing for good scores regardless of the direction of the tee shot.
Greens- The greens use Bent Grass and are quite large. The majority are relatively level and quite easy to read. During the Fall season the greens play very slow but even during the Summer season the greens play slower than most local golf courses. Each green has LOTS of ball marks causing for bumpy and uneven rolls.
BEST HOLES
Signature Hole - #16 Par 5 515 Yards

One of the few holes where water comes into play. In this case, it can come into play on every shot, from tee to the green. It is possible to get to the green in 2 but, you will need a big drive on the right side of the fairway flirting with both ponds on that side.
The approach shot will need to carry the 115 yards of the 2ndpond to reach the green. The further back your tee shot, the further that carry becomes. A 300 yard drive from the tips leaves a 220 yard shot over the pond at the center of the green. Green is slightly elevated, making the yardage a little bit longer than listed. Make sure you have plenty of club on the carry, as the green slopes back towards the pond, possibly taking all short shots for a swim.
Green is very wide, so the main concern is getting it close to the pin for a possible 2-putt birdie. For shorter or conservative hitters, playing left eliminates the water but will force you to layup on your second shot.

Most Beautiful - #8 Par 3 164 Yards

I would not call this the most beautiful course but this Par 3 does have some beautiful features. Mountains in the background and a forced carry over a well maintained pond. The immaculate BYU golf team’s practice facilities are just to the right.

Birdie Time - #15 Par 4 351 Yards

A short par 4 that easily forgives bad tee shots going right. Only one rule on this hole, DON’T GO LEFT off the tee. If you can be on the right side of the fairway the approach shot is an easy pitching wedge into an elevated green that funnels everything to the middle. The rough on the right side is short and easy to hit out of as well.

Likely Bogey - #12 Par 3 239 Yards

A long and narrow par 3 with overhanging trees on the left side from the tips. This is an elevated tee shot to an equally elevated green. Do not go left. Possibility of hitting overhanging branches or the possibility of losing your ball in the trees. The green has a small false front but is quite level. Getting a green in regulation is a great shot off the tee.

Best Par 3 - #14 187 Yards

Yet another summary of another Par 3 (see most beautiful and likely bogey hole). The green is slightly uphill and is protected on the left side by a large and tall tree. If the pin is located on the left, center of the green is the play. If the pin is anywhere else, you can be aggressive and attack. The green is large and flat except for the left side that slopes from left to right.

Best Par 4 - #6 475 Yards

This hole also got a few votes for the “likely Bogey”hole but instead, wins the award for the best Par 4. There is a risk/reward strategy for this hole that get even riskier knowing that it is a Par 4.
Risk – Try and cut the corner on the right dogleg and let it roll out to the fairway. If you can hit it at least 255 yards from the tips you will have an angle to the green with a 210 yard approach shot to an elevated green. If you can’t cut the corner you risk getting into tree trouble or even hitting in the U-shaped pond that is only 10 yards from the fairway.
Safe – 3 wood or long iron up the left side of the fairway. If you go driver, you risk driving through the fairway and into the brush/trees if you go left. The fairway runs out after 265 yards.
The approach shot window is tiny, with the fairway narrowing in at 15-20 yards, 60 yards from the green. The green is elevated, wide and deep but is very flat and easy to read once you are on it.
