Course Summary
Coral Canyons in located just a few minutes north of St. George in southwestern Utah. This course is long and difficult with some breathtaking views in between. The course showcases multiple elevation changes (#1 and #10 are my favorites) with a maze of desert washes throughout. Scenic red rock outcroppings offer impressive views throughout the course.
Each hole is unique and other than the first two holes, the layout is well thought out. I am not a fan of the first two holes being Par 5’s as it usually takes me a few holes to get in a rhythm. This is the 2nd time that I have played this course in the last 4 years. I was not impressed with the course the first time, but under new management, this course has made some significant strides and has some great potential.
The clubhouse is beautiful with ample space in the pro shop and a large meeting area for their café and possible private events. The staff was also great! Extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. As you finish your round on the 18th green, an attendant will clean your clubs. Nice touch!
The practice facilities are fantastic. The putting green is large and unique. It is in a complete circle with a large rock and cactus looking tree in the middle. Off to the side is a great chipping green with a large bunker. The driving range is good, with plenty of space and various flags. Wish they had actual greens on the range but beggars can’t be choosers.
Conditions
Unfortunately, the conditions of the course were in rough shape. The greens had a mix of different grasses along with quite a few bald spots and weeds. This caused each putt to be bumpy and slow. The fairways were not much better with various dirt patches throughout. For $99, I expected much finer conditions. However, the conditions were 10x better than they were four years ago (which should tell you how bad this course was then), so I am hopeful that the staff is moving this course in the right direction. The conditions of the course ultimately affected the beauty, value, conditions and fun scoring categories. Once the course is in better shape, $99 will be one of the better values in Southern Utah. The clubhouse, staff, practice facilities and surrounding natural beauty of the course are worth the trip though.
Signature Hole - #6 Par 3 122 Yards
Utah Golf Guy score - Par
One of the shortest Par 3’s in the state, this tee shot requires precision and distance control to the desert version of an island green. This hole is essentially green, just a few yards of fringe and then red rock wash all around. A ridge runs along the backside of the green dividing into a right and left side. The clubhouse claims that they have plans to move this hole back. I personally, think it should remain the same. Very memorable, quirky and fun hole.
Clubhouse Pick: 6 or 7
Most Beautiful – #9 Par 4 433 Yards
Utah Golf Guy score - Double Bogey
A severe dogleg left. It is so tempting to cut the corner but the Utah Golf Guy does not advise this with the desert wash all around. A beautiful is on the right side but does not come into play on this hole. Protected by two large bunkers on the right. The green is tiered, with the upper tier in the back right and the lower tier on the front left.
Clubhouse Pick: 1 or 9
Birdie Time - #8 Par 4 312 Yards
Utah Golf Guy score - Par
A short Par 4 with an elevated tee shot and a relatively wide fairway. A large fairway bunker sits on the right side. Only those attempting to drive the green should attempt to go to the right side. The sensible play is to land 100 yards short of the green, pull out a wedge and stick it close. Three bunkers protect the front and left side of the green. Green is two tiered, high tier on the right side and low tier on the left. If attempting to drive the green, stay on the right side to stay out of the greenside bunkers.
Clubhouse Pick: 8 or 16
Likely Bogey - #15 Par 4 488 Yards
Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey
The most obvious individual hole award is the most Likely Bogey hole, #15. This hole is a monster! A long Par 4 that plays longer than the yardage shows due to not one but two forced carries over desert washes that run across the fairway. Not to mention that wind is usually at your face! The fairway after the first set of fairway is wider than it appears. There is more room on the left but hugging the right fairway gives you a better and shorter path for the rest of the hole. The second forced carry runs about 100 yards short of the green. The green is relatively skinny. A ridge runs across the middle of the green, sloping uphill in the front and downhill in the back. If you can leave this hole with a par, consider yourself lucky!
Clubhouse Pick: 15
Best Par 3 - #3 177 Yards
Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey
One of my favorite tee shots on the course. Huge, elevated tee shot into a wide fairway. The views from the tee box are stunning and put this hole on the short list for “Most Beautiful”. The hole is separated by two fairways with a small opening between the two. The first fairway runs out on the right side about 100 yards from the green so most will need to layup due to the extra yardage from your elevated tee shot. Middle to left fairway leaves you with the best angle for the approach. Green is protected by a front right bunker and a huge bunker all along the left side. Target golf on the approach so gauge your distance correctly, with a downhill shot. Green is deep and slopes aggressively uphill. The back right has a backstop if you use it correctly.

The hole itself is good but the tee shot steals the show. Huge, elevated tee shot right off the bat that showcases the beauty of Southwest Utah. Fairway is wide but has a fairway bunker on the left and on the right. This hole is reachable and accessible in two, as the green has two bunkers to the sides leaving the front of the green wide open. Green is tiered, with the high side in the back and low side on the front. Green slopes aggressively uphill
