COURSE SUMMARY

Davis Park Golf Course is a public golf course located on the benches of Fruit Heights, Utah. The course is diverse with water, bunkers, elevation changes and mature trees. The greens are ginormous and are in FANTASTIC condition, rolling just a touch quick but true.

According to some local golfers, the course is now much more forgiving after a windstorm occurred a few years ago wiping out quite a few trees. The course only plays 6671 yards from the tips, and even average players off the tee have the opportunity to reach each par 5 in two.

Specifics

The clubhouse is nice. Spacious on the inside, but a little outdated on the outside. Space for a little café and conference room for banquets and such. The staff were a little ornery both on the phone and in person. Very rushed and gave me 1-2 word answers whenever I asked them specific questions about the course.

Conditions

The course conditions were amazing! The greens were some of the best that I can remember seeing and playing all year long. The greens looked and played absolutely perfect. The Utah Golf Guy normally takes care of 2 or 3 additional ball marks when he plays a course but I may have fixed 5 total throughout my entire round. The fairways played and looked fantastic, allowing the ball to sit up with enough give to allow for a decent divot. Rough was even throughout and due to the changing weather did not play difficult at all.

I only played in one bunker during my round (right greenside bunker on #18) but I did drop a few balls just to see how they performed. All played perfect with just the right amount of sand. Tee boxes were in championship shape. Overall, the maintenance staff of the course should be extremely proud of the course that they have sustained. Two big thumbs up from the Utah Golf Guy.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #4 Par 4 398 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Birdie

A unique par 4 that plays downhill into a blind fairway. The hole is a dogleg left forcing you to make decisions off the tee box. Too much club will run you through the fairway and possibly onto the road. Not enough club won’t give you a great angle for your approach shot. Ideally, you want to leave yourself with 115 yards to the middle of the green. Fairway slopes aggressively downhill so gauge your distance carefully. The right side of the fairway is a mound that will funnel all shots back to the middle of the green. Due to the blind fairway, a mirror sitting on top of a pole next to the tee boxes allows you to see if the fairway is clear. Green is deep, wide and relatively flat.

The Utah Golf Guy played this hole perfectly (need to brag because I can’t say it too often). Played a 4-iron off the tee, leaving me with 117 to the pin. Playing a 90% 50 degree wedge, landed 3 feet short of the flag and rolled to about 6 inches for a tap in birdie putt.

Clubhouse Pick: 12

Most Beautiful - #5 Par 4 392 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

A visually beautiful and fun hole. Tee box is elevated and looks down towards the green. A hill sits on the right side and slopes all the way down to the fairway. A grove of trees sits on the top of this hill and will catch any slices headed that way. Need a big drive to have a level approach shot, otherwise you will be hitting on a downslope.

Green is protected by two front side bunkers, one on each side. At the 100 yard marker, the green will be uphill for the approach. Green is wide with very little room behind it. Green slopes uphill. Fun and beautiful hole.

Clubhouse Pick: 6

Birdie Time - #18 Par 4 301 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

A reachable par 4 off the drive, even from the tips. Elevated tee box towers over the fairway that goes back up towards the green. Green sits slightly below the tee box making this hole shorter than the yardage indicates. Big trees line the right side of the fairway, trees a little more sparse on the left side. Shot requires a baby draw to reach the green off the drive with a slight dogleg left.

Green is protected by two large bunkers, one on the left and one on the right (the one on the right will collect all shots from big hitters who can’t draw the ball off the tee). Each of these bunkers are deep. Green is relatively small and slopes uphill and from right to left. Fun finishing hole that should at least leave you with a birdie putt.

Clubhouse Pick: 2

Likely Bogey - #12 Par 4 498 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

I’m not sure there is an extremely difficult hole on the course but this one is the closest. An elevated tee box makes this 500 yard par 4 play shorter than advertised. Trees line the left side of the fairway and a patch of trees on the right side. Fairway is quite wide but if you hook or slice your tee shot you could be in trouble. Approach shot is downhill to the green. Green is protected by a front right bunker and left side bunker. Green is wide and slopes aggressively uphill. The backside creates a minor backstop for those who hit a couple of yards long.

Clubhouse Pick: 12

Best Par 3 - #11 198 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

A beautiful par 3, hitting from an elevated tee box into a deep but skinny green. Trees line the right side on a hill, left side is out of bounds into thick trees and bushes. Little to know room behind the green as well so must be accurate on the tee shot. A ridge runs along the right side of the green pushing all shots back towards the middle of the green. While not technically a cathedral style green with an opening on the back right, from the tee box the green seems surrounded by wilderness.

Clubhouse Pick: 14

Best Par 4 - #6 402 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

The best stretch of holes on this course are holes 4-6. Number 6 started with an elevated tee box into a fairway that runs parallel from the left side. A creek runs along the left side of the fairway. A hill filled with trees are on the right. Ideal tee shot is left side fairway. Green sits slightly uphill for the approach. Only danger on the approach is the bunker on the left side. Green is deep and slopes downhill and from right to left.

Clubhouse Pick: 4

Best Par 5 - #8 514 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

This hole doglegs to the right with no bunkers or heavy trees to impede you from cutting the corner. Green is deep and wide, sloping aggressively uphill. Two bunkers on the left, one on the right. The collar is relatively wide allowing you to run up your second shot onto the green. Everyone should have a decent shot at birdie on this hole.
