COURSE SUMMARY

Logan is slowly becoming one of my favorite golf cities in Utah. The Logan River Golf course definitely adds to this thought. The course is beautiful, with green and lush fairways and greens. Everything was manicured perfectly and other than a few muddy spots from the rainfall, the conditions were excellent.

The one knock I have (and not specifically for this course but A LOT of Utah courses) is the fact that the flag colors are the same on every hole. As a golfer who does not have a distance finder, I much prefer different flag colors to estimate and gauge the distance. The Utah Golf Guy probably had an extra 3 strokes today due to bad judgment in flag distance playing 10 yards different than the actual distance.

While only playing 6487 yards from the tips, this course makes you plan and think on every shot. You cannot overpower this course off the tee due to the tight fairways and abundant marsh/water hazards littered throughout. Use and control of your long irons are a must to keep the ball in play.

EXTRAS

Clubhouse is modern and spacious. They did a great job with the space that they have. Practice facilities are good, with a full driving range with a variety of flags, greens and yardage markers to aim for. Practice putting green is large and spacious.

As for most Utah courses, the Utah Golf Guy recommends playing Logan River either in the late spring or early fall. Soft, lush and beautiful during these times of year.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #3 Par 4 405 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

FUN! FUN! FUN! At least for the Utah Golf Guy (he likes a challenging hole). Dry water reeds line the left and the right side of the fairway making the tee shot crucial for success. The marsh juts in from the left side so a forced carry is necessary off the tee. Fairway comes to a point in the middle so be watching your ball on the initial bounce in the fairway. There is more room on the right side of the fairway than what appears from the tee box.

After the marsh, 3 separate ponds line the hole all the way to the green. Two smaller ponds on the left side and a large pond on the right side. Green is protected by a large tree on the front left, 2 greenside bunkers on that same left side and another bunker in the front middle. The water on the right will come into play if you can’t land the green. Green slopes aggressively so don’t leave yourself behind the hole.

Marsh, water, bunkers and large trees! Touch, challenging and overall fun hole!

Clubhouse Pick: 3

Most Beautiful - #13 Par 4 384 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Hole 13 is the definition of a risk/reward hole. The fairway wraps around a very large pond with the green staring at you across the way. Big hitters will be tempted to aim for the green but will need 250 yards to clear. There is also marsh and junk to the left of the green that could potentially come into play even if you do clear the water. Another option is to get the ball in play using a mid-iron.  Green has two small bunkers; one on the front left and the other back right.

The Utah Golf Guy did hit the driver but went into the marsh on the left side. This pond can be cleared but will require some accuracy off the tee.

Clubhouse Pick: 1

Birdie Time - #18 Par 5 516 Yards

Play Video

Simple and straight-forward hole to finish off your round. Bombs away off the tee as there is no real danger on this hole. A dry bed creek filled with rocks runs across the fairway, 150 yards from the green. There are hazards on the left and right but the fairway is pretty wide open. There is an overhanging tree on the left side, so right center is best for your approach. Water horseshoes around the backside of the green and a large greenside bunkers sits on the right side. Green is elevated and deep.

Clubhouse Pick: 18

Likely Bogey - #12 Par 4 436 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

This hole is an absolute beast and extremely intimidating off the tee box. Trees line the entire left side of the fairway and pinch into the fairway. Water runs along the entire right side of the fairway past the green, starting around the 150 yard marker. Two greenside bunkers, one in the front right and the other on the left side. Green is deep and slopes uphill.

Clubhouse Pick: 3 or 12

Best Par 3 - #14 165 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Beautiful Par 3 with water running along the left edge from tee to behind the green. Forced carry from the back tees. Greenside bunker sits between the green and water on the left side. Green is deep. Gauge your distance properly. Little to no danger along the right side.

Clubhouse Pick: 17

Best Par 4 - #6 369 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Looking at the yardage, you might be tempted to drive past the fairway crossing marsh but the risk outweighs the reward. Layup to the 150 marker, playing from the right side. Open fairway with a commercial building along the far left side. A large greenside bunker protects the entire front side of the green making it more important to layup and hit a wedge up and over the sand. Water wraps around the back right side of the green. Green is wide and tiered (back right is the top shelf).

Clubhouse Pick: 13

Best Par 5 - #1 519 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Pretty Par 5 with mature trees all along the right side. Wide open on the left side. The fairway is narrow but the rough on the left side is quite forgiving. Left center is best. Too far left and you will have trees pinching in from the left forcing you to layup. If a decent tee shot, great chance to reach the green in two. Bushes line the entire right side of the fairway from the 150 yard marker to the green. Green is deep and slopes uphill. A single right side bunker protects the green.
