Course Summary

Pebble Brook Golf Club is one of four golf courses in the great city of Sandy, Utah. This 9 hole track consists of three par 3’s and six par 4’s and is known as a neighborhood golf course. The course is beautiful (especially the first five holes), with lush green grass, trees, bushes and ravines throughout the course. This used to be an 18 hole course but they have downgraded it to a 9 hole course due to the cost of upkeep. Unfortunately, the switch to 9 holes has made the course layout extremely confusing. The former hole 6 is now on hole 10, hole number 7 was formerly hole number 11, hole number 8 is now hole number 9 and hole 18 is now hole number 9. They have signs throughout saying “temporary holes” but this setup remains extremely confusing for a first time golfer on this course. To add to the confusion, each flag is red but the placement is not always in the front so without yardage binoculars it becomes very difficult to gauge distances on the approach.

The course is extremely short and has tight fairways with quick greens. In fact, you can leave your driver in the trunk unless you can hit a big hook on hole #1. This is a fun course for testing your accuracy with your irons. This course has elevation changes, water, doglegs and a few sand bunkers.

The first 5 holes, before the confusion mentioned above, are fantastic! By far the best and most beautiful holes on the course. The last four holes are not only confusing but also are not as fun. If the course could have continued the quality of holes throughout the nine, their fun and value scores would have been much higher.

Specifics

The clubhouse is essentially a trailer that is currently closed to the public. The course has a decent driving range with lots of open bays but is quite shallow and won’t allow you to test your driver. The driving range is mats only. The practice green is small and in poor shape. They also don’t allow chipping on their only putting green.

The friendliness of staff score needs to be explained. On the phone, the lady was exceptional. Kind, cheerful and helpful. At the course, the same lady was amazing! Very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, it took me 12 phone calls spread over 5 separate days to finally get a hold of someone to book a tee time. These calls were placed between 10am and 6pm on random days throughout the week. If someone had answered the phone, I would have played this course weeks ago.

Conditions

First, the good. The fairways were in good shape. Green, maintained and played nicely for each approach shot.

Next, the bad. Tee boxes and the greens were in terrible shape. Both were torn up and worn down. Weeds were growing everywhere and most of the greens were sopping wet. Greens also had divots throughout, dead spots and duck/goose poop were prevalent on most holes.

Finally, the mixed. The few sand bunkers on the course looked awful. Large pieces of rock were found in most of them and they were all lacking sand. But, when I dropped a ball to review, it actually played much better than I expected. But overall, if the greens are in bad shape, that is a poor experience for the paying golfer.

BEST HOLES
Signature Hole - #5 Par 3 142 Yards

A beautiful, elevated tee shot into very deep green. Trees line both sides of the fairway and leave a very narrow opening for the tee shot. Both sides have trees that spill into the fairway overtop. Out of bounds if you go too far left, heavy trees if you go a little bit left. The right side also has trees but is a little more playable compared to the left. In front of the green is a little dam/well that will collect any balls that are short of the green. Green is extremely deep so gauge the right distance on the elevated tee shot.

Most Beautiful - #4 Par 3 136 Yards

Another short par 3 with an elevated tee shot. Trees line the back side of the green forming a sort of cathedral feel. From the tee box, the green is hidden from view but you can see the flag stick. Only 10 yards of room behind the green. To the right of the green is heavy trees and a creek. The only safe area around the green is on the left side. Green slopes downhill and is quite undulated throughout.

Birdie Time - #6 Par 4 245 Yards

Another “temporary hole” that was the #10 hole before they changed to a  9 hole track. If you can hit a decent fade with your driving iron or 3-wood you will have a chance for an eagle putt. A tree on the right side comes into the fairway forcing a fade or a layup on the left side of the fairway. The fairway slopes from the right to the left side. Green is very deep with little to no room on the back right side.

Likely Bogey - #9 Par 4 270 Yards

Formerly hole #18. A slight dogleg left with trees lining the right side of the fairway. Green is slightly elevated with a false front and false right side. Beautiful views from the tee box showcasing the mountains and trees. Green is extremely wide but shallow.

Best Par 3 - #5 142 Yards

From tee to green this hole is absolutely beautiful. From the tee box, you are hitting into a tight corridor between trees on both sides. In between the tee box and fairway is a valley giving a really cool feel to the tee shot. Fairway opens up. This needs to be a layup with a pond on the left side and the possibility of hitting through the fairway if hitting straight. Play your 225 yard club for the best angle and distance for your approach. If you hit up to the edge of the fairway you will not need to hit over the beautiful pond. Green is wide and has very little room behind it. Green is quite undulated but slopes predominantly uphill and towards the water. Green is in awful shape though. Ball marks and weeds everywhere, fowl poop throughout and sopping wet throughout.
