Course Summary

Schneiter’s Bluff Golf Course is located in West Point, about a mile away from Farmington Bay in the Great Salt Lake. Schneiter’s Bluff is unique and quirky, evident before you even tee off. The first practice green, between the clubhouse and hole #1, makes a circle formation with a rockwork fountain standing in the middle. The second practice green, en route to the #10 tee box, is ginormous and quite undulated. The shape is reminiscent of the letter “F”. These different shaped greens bleed into the course with very deep and skinny greens with distinctive shapes and sizes.

The course is not difficult. Water rarely comes into play and young trees are spaced out along off the fairways. Greens played normal speed and were manicured quite nicely.

Although different, the practice greens are beautiful, large and undulating allowing for practice of all types of chips and putts. The driving range is also good, lots of bays and shots on actual grass with good yardage markers.

Schneiter’s Bluff offers extra activities for those not interested in 18 holes of golf. Behind the driving range is a short, 5 hole course that is perfect for young golfers or those just getting into the game. Ball and clubs can be rented for a reasonable fee. Also, a frisbee golf (frolf) course is located throughout the course as well, adding to the fun of Schneiter’s Bluff.

Conditions

The course is in FANTASTIC SHAPE! I was quite surprised how green and lush the fairways, rough and greens both looked and played. It seemed that every two holes I ran into a different employee either mowing or watering the course. Very impressed with how well the grounds crew maintained the course. While not the prettiest course, the conditions were excellent.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #7 Par 4 375 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Bogey

Fun hole that plays dogleg right. Play left of the fairway bunker on the right side and you will be in perfect shape. Lots of room on the left side fairway that cannot be seen from the tee box. The fairway slopes downhill, parallel from the right fairway bunker, giving you an extra 10-15 yards of roll. The fairway then slopes back uphill. Water lines the right side of the green so be aware on your approach shot.

Greenside bunker sits between the green and pond on the right side. Green slopes gently uphill and plays deep and skinny. Fun tee shot, approach and green to navigate.

Clubhouse Pick: 17

Most Beautiful - #14 Par 4 365 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Birdie

Short dogleg right Par 4. Big hitters can get close to the green with a high fade off the tee. Trees line the left side of the fairway and a grove of six large trees will be in your view if you land anywhere on the right side. Fairway is extremely skinny and runs out 100 yards from the green. Ideal landing area is left fairway. A valley runs between the end of the fairway and up to the green. Landing past the first fairway will require an uphill approach. Hitting your approach from the fairway will be about level with the green. Green slopes uphill with the sides funneling everything back to the middle.

Clubhouse Pick: 14

Birdie Time - #2 Par 4 310 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Bogey

Reachable par 4 with two fairway bunkers on the left and two more on the right. Water off to the right but should not come into play unless you hit a wicked slice. Green is extremely skinny and deep. Green slopes aggressively uphill creating a shelf on the backside. Stay out of the bunkers, chip it close and roll one in for the easiest hole on the course.

Clubhouse Pick: 2

Likely Bogey - #18 Par 4 447 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Bogey

Long par 4 with a very skinny landing area. Trees line both sides of the fairway with two fairway bunkers (one on each side) about 180 yards from the green. Must be accurate on the tee shot or you will have a big number on this hole. Green is shared with #9, is very skinny and slopes uphill. Ideal tee shot is left side of the fairway. One of the few difficult holes on this course.

Clubhouse Pick: 18

Best Par 3 - #11 194 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Bogey

Touch decision between #11 and #16. The deciding factor was the water on #11 that runs along the entire left side from fairway to the back of the green. Small bunker on the front left sits between the pond and the green. Green is deep and slow, sloping uphill.

Clubhouse Pick: 16

Best Par 4 - #17 421 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Par

The only true dogleg left on the course. Plenty of room on the right side of the fairway, just stay out of the fairway bunker. Trees line the left side. Right side the fairway gives you the ideal position on the approach. Green is deep and slopes slightly uphill, although is one of the flattest greens on the course. A ridge on the right side funnels balls to the middle of the green.

Clubhouse Pick: 4

Best Par 5 - #13 536 Yards

Utah Golf Guy Score - Par

This tee shot can mess with your head. A large set of trees on the right and left sides of the tee box do just enough to get your attention and make you a little nervous on the drive. Fairway is wide with fairway bunkers on the left and right sides. Trees are young and sparse making this hole an easy par 5 even if you can’t find the fairway. Recommended to land on the left fairway as trees will be in your sight on the left if you fly the fairway bunkers on that side.

A large valley runs through the fairway about 180 yards from the green. Green is deep and slopes uphill. A ridge runs along the backside creating a shelf on the back right and a valley on the back left. Green gets wide on the backside.

Clubhouse Pick: 6
