Course Summary

The Ridge is a fun track with a wide variety of different holes. These include high elevated tee shots, blind shots, sloping/undulating fairways and greens with plenty of water danger throughout. Holes 13-17 are particularly entertaining with fantastic views and strategy around 2 man-made ponds. Although I was forced to walk during the COVID-19 pandemic, I would recommend riding this course due to the distance between some of the greens/tee boxes and the elevation changes.

Wind is prevalent at the course and in fact, the course has received a local nickname of “Wind Ridge”. Important to keep your tee shots low and in control to combat any heavy gusts. The course is quite forgiving though, regardless of the wind. Fairways are built on rolling hills so the majority of all approach shots will be on uneven lies.

Specifics

The views of the entire Salt Lake Valley are stunning but the course itself is not as alluring. A lack of trees takes away from some of the potential natural beauty of this track. Although the lack of trees gives the course a “links feel” the course itself is not a links track. The clubhouse is humongous and towers over certain holes. Although not a beautiful building, you can sense and see its grandeur from throughout the course.

The fairways are in decent shape but do have a few dead spots on every hole. The tee boxes are a little shoddy with dandelion weeds sprouting up everywhere but overall the course is in good shape. Greens rolled true and were quite smooth. The rough is not very thick allowing for some low scores even if you are not hitting your drives well.

The staff in the clubhouse and on the course were top notch. Each took the time to greet and assist in any way that they could. Friendly with a smile. You can tell that they love their job and care for their patrons.

BEST HOLES

Signature Hole - #13 Par 5 538 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

This hole is an absolute gem and one of the best Par 5’s in Utah. Possible to reach in two but you need to hit a bomb off the tee, and close to the water’s edge. The front edge of the water leaves you with 200 yards to the middle of the green (and will take a 300 yard drive from the tips). From the other tee boxes, gauge your distance carefully and aim a few yards to the left to play it safe. For those laying up, you will still need to hit over the water but there is plenty of fairway on the left side. If attempting to reach in two, it is one of the most entertaining shots of the round. The water is all carry all the way to the front right edge of the green. If you bail out left, you will run into two bunkers protecting the front left side.

Beautiful rockwork lines the edge of the water and the green. The green is surprisingly large and deep (looks small and shallow from the approach) giving you ample space to land and stop your ball on the green. From the tee shot to your last putt, this hole is both beautiful and challenging.

Clubhouse Pick: #13

Most Beautiful - #15 Par 3 132 Yards

A short hole into a large green. The view from the tee box is the best on the course. A beautiful waterfall stream cascades down the right side of the tee box and feeds into a pretty pond that surrounds the whole backside of the green. In the distance, a unique red and white water tower can be seen on the left. Mountains and Salt Lake Valley can be seen on the right.

Don’t let the beauty of the hole distract from one of the shortest and simplest tee shots on the course.

Clubhouse Pick: #13 or #15

Birdie Time - #14 Par 4 313 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Short Par 4 that plays slightly uphill. Aim just to the right of the left side fairway bunker and let the ball roll onto or close to the green. Water can be seen on the right side but does not come into play. Green slopes gently uphill from the back 1/3 of the green. The last 1/3 of the green contains a ridge the creates a backside shelf.  Aim for the left fairway, chip it at the hole and roll one in for Birdie!

Clubhouse Pick: #10 or #17

Likely Bogey - #2 Par 4 446 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

This longer Par 4 played a lot longer during my round due to a strong 22 mph headwind. A fairway bunker sits on the left side waiting to collect even decent tee shots. Dirt and natural vegetation is on the right side. Green sits a little bit uphill.

Clubhouse Pick: #2 or #16

Best Par 3 - #7 161 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Par

Another short, elevated tee shot into a large and accepting green. A small creek runs across the fairway but sits 50 yards short of the green so it should never come into play. Green slopes from the back to the front. A gentle ridge runs through the first 1/3 of the green creating a small valley on the backside. Beautiful views of downtown Salt Lake from the tee box.

Clubhouse Pick: #15

Best Par 4 - #18 432 Yards

Utah Golf Guy score - Bogey

Fantastic finishing hole. Elevated tee box hitting into a downhill sloping fairway. From the tee box you can see the #18 green, the clubhouse and the beautiful lake on the signature hole, #13. 100 yards from the green is a huge valley that then elevates back up to the green. False front. Green slopes gently uphill with a shelf on the back 2/3 of the green.

Clubhouse Pick: #18

Best Par 5 - #13 538 Yards
